Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump!

I just got back from our 16 week check up with Dr. Lewkowski. She is the sweetest thing! Also pregnant herself, I think she sort of "gets it" extra right now. Like she really wants to know how I'm feeling, and what I've been thinking lately. She knows the concerns and worries, but still sees the joys and simple gladness. It was encouraging to hear our baby's heartbeat this morning... SO GREAT! My friend Lea said it basically makes her cry, but since I'm not such a crier myself, I just got a huge grin on my face and listened in awe. The Doplar thing she used looked like a little hand-held gaming machine with no screen, just buttons. Squirt a little jelly on my belly, and instantly when she set the scope thing down, we heard baby!!!
The doplar my doctor used looked a lot like this

If you want to listen to the beat (I'm trying to remember how fast it actually sounded, and I think between 150-160 beats per minute is about where it was). Silly me, I didn't ask :) Oh, well! Anyway, if you don't have a metronome at home, try this link for an online version of a metronome. (Select the beat on the right hand side of your screen, the "wind up" to start ticking). The sound itself isn't anything like a "ticking," but an echoing thud-thud or thump-thump sound. REALLY neat! When it got louder and slightly more spaced out, you could tell that the baby was moving. And let me tell you--we've got quite the acrobat!

I was reminded, just by hearing a little babe's heartbeat, of how AWESOME our God's love is for us. He is so great and faithful through all things. Tim and I can't imagine the blessings still ahead, because we are astounded now (already) in the creation of His Child within me.

I think of this beautiful song by Stuart Townend--How Deep the Father's Love for Us.

How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He would give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross
My guilt upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no powr's, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Congratulations again Amy, hearing the heartbeat is comforting and really cool throughout the pregnancy. I was reminded of it in the hospital before delivery, I asked the nurses to keep the monitor on audio so I could hear Calvin's heart and know he was doing well throughout.

Thanks for the update Amy! Its amazing to be able to share this joy with you from so far away. I love this song- one of my favorites! And it captures the Truth so beautifully- we only have to look at our lives to realize how GREAT and endless His love for us. Love you sister!
Kristin, It WAS comforting, and so encouraging to hear the fast and healthy--which my doctor informed me as TOTALLY NORMAL;--heart beating inside. I bet it was nice to hear him during delivery!

Melissa, He IS great and cares for us beyond what we can imagine. I LOVE being reminded of that! Glad you're up on the up and up from so far away, too!
